New Movies in 2012 Including Star Trek, Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, & More!

The year 2011 has been a good year for movies, but the 2012 most anticipated movies list is long and exciting and sure to please a variety of tastes. The list of 2012 movies is heavy with heroes drawn from the pages of comic books, and also features some eagerly awaited sequels. All in all, it looks to be a promising year for lovers of sci-fi, adventure, and action.

The Dark Knight Rises: Directed by Christopher Nolan, and starring Christian Bale, this sequel to 2008’s dark thriller The Dark Knight will close out the trilogy that started with Batman Begins in 2005. The latest film features a promising cast, with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and other heavy hitters.

 

The Avengers: Robert Downey Jr. reprises his popular Iron Man role, with Chris Hemsworth playing Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. With Joss Whedon at the helm, this one looks promising.

 

Untitled Star Trek Sequel: Having opened the door to sequels with the time travel device used in 2009’s Star Trek, director J.J. Abrams has reassembled most of the talented cast from the last movie. Though it is slated for a summer release, word is that Abrams may be pushing the release date back to ensure higher quality. Whenever it hits theaters, we’re sure to be excited!

 

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: To say that Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic is highly anticipated is a major understatement. Starring Martin Freeman as the fuzzy footed titular character, the film also has Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, and Ian McKellan reprising their roles from Jackson’s epic adaptation of the Trilogy of the Rings. Ian Holm is back, as well, as an older version of Bilbo Baggins. With the next Hobbit movie to follow in 2013, this one is sure to be huge.

The Amazing Spider-Man: There’s a new Spider-Man in town, and he’s played by Andrew Garfield. With Emma Stone as his leading lady, Martin Sheen and Sally Field as his aunt and uncle, and Rhys Ifans as the film’s villain, this one is sure to please. The film will portray Peter Parker as he is developing his super powers in high school. It is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012.

 

Men in Black III: Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back, of course, as Agents K and J, respectively, and director Barry Sonnenfeld is back at the helm. Emma Thompson, Josh Brolin, Rip Torn and Jemaine Clement are cast members who have caught our attention, but we are perhaps most intrigued to see Bill Hader play Andy Warhol.
